Duhhhhhhhh.
And what does this mechanical key open on an electronic voting machine? It isn't like there are paper-ballots stuffed in there. Did these keys actually give you access to the votes?
Ok - a little hunting reveals that this key opens the compartment where there is a memory card slot. And one could theoretically attach a memory card with a virus that could ultimately cause the machine to be shut down.
Sounds like a good plotpoint for 24.
You know what really worries me about this that no-one seems to mention. This company also makes ATMs and I saw in an articel once by a higer up in the corperation that when they started to make voting machines they used the same technology that goes into their ATMs. Just how safe is our money????
the idea isnt to shut the machine down, its to fake vote to make one canidate win with out a trail. it was done easly by a school.

Wow! Extra keys just in case someone else steals them.
Diebold is going to go the same way as Microsoft did. Getting hacked into, bad interface, extra keys laying around (jk, jk).
BTW FIRST!!^^
