Broken: Emergency instructions on a train
Ian Chard submits a picture taken on a First Great Western Link train between London and Great Malvern, UK:
Presumably those not fortunate enough to be travelling in first class can get stuffed in case of an "emergeny"...
Was Ian in First Class when he took this picture? Perhaps the other classes have their own window stickers.
I wish we had hammer windows where I live, much more fun than the exit windows.
The person who took that picture must have been in first class. I can't imagine that an emergency sticker would tell you to go to a different car to get a hammer.
If it really is a different car, that is totally broken.
And yeah, exit windows would be a much better choice than window hammers. At least things are improving. On school buses, for example, they only had two exits - one front and one rear. Now they have four window exits, two top exits, one side exit, one rear exit, and one front exit.
"...Personally, I beleive it is a exit windows would be a much better choice than window hammers..."
Considering we have no context, I think it is presumptuous to conclude that having hammers as a *mutually exclusive* option to having exit windows.
1. This window is in a train.
2. This sign should be located over every window in the train.
3. Hammers must be located withing 6 inches of the window.
4. Hammers must have a chain, if required, of 24 inches.
I wasn't in First Class -- this was in the door vestibule in the middle of a Standard Class compartment.
Well, that can't be safe because there is a SLIGHT chance nobody is in 1st Class and some one would have to run up and get it. But, by the time they get it, they may be DEAD... Very morbid.
Also, when I first looked at the pic, I thought "Wow! They finally made a hammer that smashes Windows XP!! :D

I've seen a similar (but less dangerous) situation in some busses: There are about 5 hammers, but they're all in the front of the bus. So during an emergency, everyone has to get to the front of the bus in order to get a hammer. Unfortunate choice, in my opinion.
