Broken: Boston signage
Matthias Bohler points out a picture taken in Boston, Massachusetts by Randy:
How could anybody get lost in the Big Dig?
It saves time having to ask for directions. Probably the local merchants all chipped in for these signs so that people would stop bugging them. Problem is now people spend all day at the light trying to figure out which way they want to go.
just so you guys know, the trafic is like that because the big dig tunnels were closed because of broken design on the bolts that hold up the ceiling panels. http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2006/07/26/report_safety_officer_warned_tunnel_ceiling_wouldnt_hold/
it is driving the city crazy right now.
Schwal,
I can imagine how nightmarish your commutes must be right now. The big dig is a very ambitious plan, that will be a huge positive to the city, returning pedestrian space, but the construction delays, over runs, and snarl makes it hard to look to the positives.
Mark was this a recent picture or one from a few months ago in the que? That way we know if it's broken because of the recent construction problems or an ongoing issue.
Based on the orange signage I would say that most of the problem is due to construction and is only temporary.
I like the sign on top of this mess that announces "new route to." Uh, would that new route be to State St? Or the Callahan Tunnel? Or maybe the Financial District...? (That's of course above and beyond the obvious fact that it doesn't actually help you to get to any of these places anyway).
