Broken: Used tires ad
Ron Dylewski submits a picture of an ad spotted along Route 28 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania:
I assume they mean "Brand new AND used tires," but I'm not entirely sure!
ah come on... u know, i bet all of you are as incorrect as that ad.
Next time you buy a second hand car, and you tell everyone 'hey, i just bought a new car!', think about this ad. You did NOT buy a new car, you bought a USED car.
I love Roger's logic: people who claim they got a new car when in fact they have a used car are broken, and so this sign isn't broken because it's doing the same thing. Huh....
I think that the brand new is in reference to the treading; tires can be re-treaded and then sold as new, but technically theyre used; just a little detour in the lifecycle of the vulcanized rubber product- thankfully you cant just trash this resource for a highly toxic to produce material.
"I love Roger's logic: people who claim they got a new car when in fact they have a used car are broken..."
Is it broken to say that it's a new car because it's new to you?
I think the ad worked as designed. If you ever need used tires, you'll think of the place with new used tires first.
Everyone says that they bought a new home when actually the majority of them are used. It is new to you.
Maybe they sell wheelbarrow tires and bicycle tires and other types of tires. They don't actually say automobile tires.
Looks like if you follow that sign literally you will be broken after hitting the vehicle in the way... LOL
I saw this exact sign in "Signspotting - absurd and amusing signs from around the world". I'd reccomend that book.
Why would someone buy a used $10 tire. Seems a bit dangerous to me.

Buying used tires is perfectly fine. The tires you have on your car are used, aren't they?

No, it means that they've just been used, 5 minutes before you step into the shop.
