Broken: University of Michigan form letter
A few years ago I took the GMAT and opted in to receive emails from different MBA programs. I recently got a form email from the University of Michigan MBA program (Go Blue!).
As you can see, they tried to auto-fill the recipient's name in the email, however since they didn't have mine, it came out as "Dear No Value,".
I can see they really value their relationship with me.
Looks like to me they would have been better off leaving blank fields with the geekier, and less offensive, NULL VALUE.
Here's another one:
A few years ago I also took the GMAT. I looked at part-time programs at the two big schools in my area, U of Michigan and Michigan State. When I visited U of M I was completely blown off. Their attitude was that they should automatically be my first choice school. During the B school tour, no one was able to answer any of my questions about the part-time program. I even called their office after and never got a response.
The reception I got at MSU could not have been more different. They really made me feel like they wanted me there, and based partly on this, that's where I went (I recommend the Weekend MBA to anyone looking for a program!). But then, after I had already committed to MSU, I started getting form letters from U of M's B school. I have attempted at least 5 times to unsubscribe from their letters, which I continued to get up to a month before I graduated from MSU (yes, two years later!).
If U of M made a mistake by blowing me off at first, they compounded it by harrassing me later.
as previously stated, its broken that you use hotmail. that message is not really broken, though. thats what you would expect to happen from an auto-response.

Best Comment:
"Dear %RECIPIENTNAME,
We have noticed your interest in %SCHOOLOFCHOICE"
Worst Comment(a tie):
"What's broken is that you use Hotmail. Use Gmail! Or even Yahoo mail."
"Broken, but
Who Gives a #$@& ?
If this is the worst thing that happens to you in just that hour, things are looking up. It is not like you got urine on your twinke® or something."
I hope you're not planning on majoring in Business "Communications". although, if you must take a bus. comm. course you could bring in this form letter as an example of how not to communicate with other. hehe.
Hey it's better then the email I got from a accounting software company alerting to a critical update that went to several people and all emails had somebody else's first name.. at least they did notice it and send an apology but was pretty funny..especially since they probaly used 1 of their software products to send out the emails and fill in the names..
