Broken: Sign to secret nuclear bunker

Mail1Chris Worth offers up this sign, pointing us in the direction of a not very "secret" nuclear bunker.

Comments:

That's funny.

Posted by: Fayth at July 25, 2005 12:20 AM

strange,funny and broken

Posted by: unknown at July 25, 2005 12:46 AM

The sign is not broken. It is a cold war bunker open to the public in southeast England.

Posted by: CaL at July 25, 2005 03:25 AM

Oh boo CaL! It was so funny before you told us the truth! BOOOO!

Posted by: Boo him! at July 25, 2005 04:23 AM

"Former" Secret Nuclear Bunker. It's missing an adjective.

Posted by: sparky at July 25, 2005 04:27 AM

ALL YOUR BUNKERS ARE BELONG TO US

Posted by: Joshua Wood at July 25, 2005 05:05 AM

Given that it's (now) run as a tourist attraction, it makes perfect sense to have a sign indicating where it is.

Can please, just for once, have a submission about something that is broken ?

Posted by: PhastPhrog at July 25, 2005 05:55 AM

••-~ - Dammit!!!!! Fox Mulder, will you please stop ratting out all my cool secret stuff!!!

Posted by: WGB Spender at July 25, 2005 05:58 AM

Very funny, although again, not broken.

The fact that it is in brown denotes historical significance/landmark, so I tend to agree with Cal.

Posted by: nickster at July 25, 2005 06:03 AM

It is indeed a former secret nuclear bunker, open to the public to tour - and you can find out all about it here (there's a virtual tour as well for those not near Essex, UK).

Posted by: Richard Gillin at July 25, 2005 08:08 AM

lol, that's funny.

That's not the same color used to denote parks, though. Perhaps that's the color they use in jolly old England?

JW- Getting old.

I agree with Boo Him. Y'all are spoil-sports.

Posted by: Bob at July 25, 2005 08:31 AM

Bob,

Yeah it's getting old, but i couldn't resist.

Posted by: Joshua Wood at July 25, 2005 09:39 AM

Do you even bother to verify the brokenness of things before you post them?

Posted by: Jay at July 25, 2005 09:49 AM

I'm not sure why we'd expect the operators of this site to verify the brokenness of things independently, when there's a perfectly good comments section that seems to serve that purpose. :)

Posted by: Tom Davidson at July 25, 2005 10:05 AM

lol! thats hiliraious, isn't there a real american version of that? and STFU to the people complainging about things that arn't really broken, what do you want me to take a bowling ball to a toaster and submitt the pics?

Posted by: Vic at July 25, 2005 10:33 AM

what do you want me to take a bowling ball to a toaster and submitt the pics?

Yes please. What are you waiting for, a written invitation ?

Posted by: PhastPhrog at July 25, 2005 12:31 PM

Funny, but not broken. Could we ease back on the "amusing road signs" category?

More on Kelvedon Hatch bunker here and here. And if this sort of thing floats your boat, the Wartime Tunnels at Dover Castle are also worth a visit.

Posted by: James Kew at July 25, 2005 01:01 PM

yes very funny, but what is really broken is the person who always has attitude over whether it is (broken!!!) or not, if it is causes you so much distress then don't visit anymore i for one wont miss the rude comments.

Posted by: liz at July 25, 2005 02:26 PM

how did they find it in the first place

Posted by: Larry Barnard at July 25, 2005 03:28 PM

not broken

Posted by: noname at July 25, 2005 05:31 PM

Okay this is really funny, and yes it is broken! correct me if i am wrong but dont secret mean that no noe is suppossed to know about it?

Posted by: djdan420fl69 at July 25, 2005 07:58 PM

No, DjDan, really? I didn't know that!

/sarcasm

Posted by: Bob at July 25, 2005 08:09 PM

Lol. Nobody sees the humor in this? If it's what people are saying, it should be more clearly labeled. As in "Former Cold War Nuclear Bunker" or something. The fact that its only saying "Secret Nuclear Bunker" doesn't really describe it well.

Posted by: [insert name here] at July 25, 2005 11:26 PM

Hey JW- don't let them bully you... it still makes me laugh, every time. =D

Posted by: ambrocked at July 26, 2005 12:50 AM

Can please, just for once, have a submission about something that is broken ?

PhastPhrog, demand a refund.

Posted by: Rob at July 26, 2005 04:23 AM

Silly people, of course it's broken. Anything labelled "secret" is ipso facto broken. The very act of marking a secret as secret makes it not secret.

And it's damned funny, too.

Posted by: sparky at July 26, 2005 04:38 AM

still,

not broken

thank you

have a nice day

Posted by: noname at July 26, 2005 07:37 PM

Not broken. It's obvious the sign is for humourous effect.

Posted by: jesus at September 6, 2005 12:11 AM

hey joshua wood:

I'm not really sure what you mean by

"ALL YOUR BUNKERS ARE BELONG TO US"

but you seem a little too enthusastic about being a dumbass. Go find some grammar.

As someone else said, this is a former cold war bunker, near London. I pass the sings to it frequently, and I've visited it - it's now a very successful tourist attraction. Anyone who lives in the UK will recognise the sign as a tourism sign - they always have a (rather unattractive) drab brown background.

http://www.aboutbritain.com/KelvedonHatchSecretBunker.htm

This sign is definitely not broken - it is actually is one of those very rare deomnstations that the people responsible for our UK motorway signs DO actually have a sense of humour, and are prepared to go public with it sometimes.

The guys who bought the bunker from the Government made a very deliberate choice in naming it (very good marketing) and to give them credit, the signage people went along with it :)

But maybe you have to be British to get appreciate the joke and the conspiracy :)

Hey people, (especially Allan Clarke)this site was for people to have fun, not for people to get teased by one person (cough cough Allan Clarke) because he/she thinks that it's not broken.

ALMOST 999999/1000000 OF THE PEOPLE HERE WERE AGAINST CHRIS WORTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
