Broken: Software sales copy
Julie Stanford writes:
Here's an example of how to scare people from buying your product in the effort to sell it.
This picture is from the home page for "Federal Money Retriever" software that helps you find government grants (www.fedmoney.com). Based on the text in the area I circled in red, I am led to believe that before buying this software I first have to do some soul searching to figure out if I am worthy enough to use this software, or if in reality I am a big loser who is never going to be succesful in getting a government grant and so should stop now and just settle for a trailer down by the river.
Either that or they're fed up of people asking for their money back when they realised even with software it still took more than 5 minutes.

That wasn't particularly broken. It may be irritating to some because it pretends the people who sell the product actually care how it's used, but that's just a common sales technique.....

Aw come on.... they obviously have had one too many refund requests for the very reason they are commenting on. Pur yourself in their place.
There were proboboly people that complained
"I have to fill out so many forms and stuff to get free money. I want a refund."
OR
"I can't get free money, I have to use it for research or something."
Because they thought that this was just a way to get free money when, in fact, it's a way for bussinesses/whoever to get federal grants in order to serve the public good.
This is broken. It's just saying that you have to be diligent in order to succeed in getting a profit from a government loan. there is no indication of occult or mystical implications involved. Diligence is KEY!

Not broken, just sales copy. People like to think that they're special, and in any case no one's going to buy this (or any) software if they DON'T think they're going to use it. This is a way of trying to persuade people that they're not being ripped off. Of course, it doesn't work very well -- when I see it I immediately think "I'm being ripped off" -- but that's the idea.
