Broken: (follow-up) London Gatwick
Seth Nelson writes...
This a follow up to the previous This Is Broken post regarding the sign of airlines serving the terminals at London's Gatwick (YUCK! London's other airport is MUCH better) Airport. You know, "The following airlines operate out of this terminal except those listed below...", those signs?I went to that airport a couple weeks ago to return to Dallas, Texas after a three-week trip in England, and the signs were fixed! Too bad I don't have a picture though, but the signs now read: "This is (North/South) Terminal. The following airlines operate out of this terminal" and a list of airlines in that respective terminal would follow. The sign finally ends with "All other airlines operate out of (North/South) Terminal." These signs, of course, are located next to the trains that connect the two terminals together.
"London's other airport"? There are 4 others: Heathrow, Luton, Stansted and London City. Admittedly City is not an international airport, and as far as I know Luton and Stansted only have flights to Europe, but still...
Have you considered that the reason they do this is that a list of airlines operating from this terminal would be far to large to list?
Gatwick is bad enough to negotiate with or without sensible signs - hope the Dallas bound got back home OK.

Hi, I'm the original writer of this post. "London's other airport" refers to Heathrow; that airport is a little nicer and has more airlines and destinations than Gatwick. Also, my flight home (which was on August 4, 2004) was okay. It was not great because I watched an inflight movie on my personal TV that was SOOOOO bad, I almost went to the lavatory for a Tylenol! LOL
Anyway, great website! My english teacher from last year and I talk about the past week's entries at my private prep school (Go Eagles!) every Friday!
Stansted operates flights to Vancouver with flyzoom.co.uk (£99 each way); near-East flights and many other non-European flights.
Airports are always awful, but I think it's one of the least awful. And you can smoke at the gate! (But not in the baggage collect any more, grrr...)
No, the signs haven't been changed.
You were in North terminal which states the following airlines operate out of this terminal, all others out of South.
He was in South which states, this terminal operates all airlines except the following and then lists those in north.
Exactly! I was flying American Airlines, which now operates out of North Terminal because of their competition with British Airways. (AA used to be in South Terminal, like all the other U.S. flights [excluding BA])
If anybody was wondering what bad movie I have seen on my flight home, it was "Mean Girls." Yes, it was unedited and shown on the small TV screen. And yes, THAT MOVIE WAS "BROKEN!"
