Broken: Exit sign
It's almost surrealist in its absurdity. From a recent trip to the States, the photo was taken at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas.
Coincidentally, turns out that the brother of a colleague of mine worked on the signage here. He wrote to my friend:
"funny....this is the Aladdin hotel in LV...I designed
the sign program at [while I worked at] CAS...
that's my sign on the right and somebody
added the big one on the door...this is the
wording the hotel wanted to use instead of
'emergency exit only'
...oh well."
The oddest thing is that I took this picture in May 2003, during a convention at the Aladdin. I did send it to a couple of friends, and am surprised and honoured that it turned up here!
Maybe it was just for use as an emergency exit? Still would be very confusing in that case as well though.
In case of a fire, when someone is trying to exit a building they are unfamiliar with, they need to know they cannot exit the building from that door.
It's kinda one of those things where I ponder and keep glancing from one contradicting sign to another.
Oh my - I stayed at the Alladin a few weeks ago and wanted to take a photo of this sign for Broken, but didn't have my camera handy. But, I see it's already here. nice job.
