Finalists in the competition to redesign New York City's bike racks. Also on the streets are some bike racks designed by David Byrne. I love living in this city.

Gotta love the Mudflap Tammy photo (complete with woman and child nearby!).

Byrne himself could've had a better experience: "In May he chronicled the spill he took when — after a few drinks, he admits — he skidded on the cobblestones of West 14th Street and broke two ribs. (Sprawled in the street, he wrote, he got “no help from the N.Y.P.D., though one of them asked if I was David Byrne.”)"

Speaking of NYC and biking, I just saw this:
NYC City Council Proposes Slashing Bike Funds
New bike infrastructure in New York City is at risk as the City Council and Mayor Bloomberg revise spending projections. Speaker Christine Quinn and the City Council released $495 million in proposed budget cuts over the next two years, including an item that would slash spending on bike network expansion in half. DOT's bike network funds would drop from $9.6 million to $4.8 million in 2009, and from $11 million to $5.5 million in 2010. A spokesman for Speaker Quinn's office did not specify why the bike network was targeted for spending cuts, saying only that painful steps were necessary to close the city's budget gap.
