10 things to stop worrying about - NYT:

For most of the year, it is the duty of the press to scour the known universe looking for ways to ruin your day. The more fear, guilt or angst a news story induces, the better. But with August upon us, perhaps you’re in the mood for a break, so I’ve rounded up a list of 10 things not to worry about on your vacation.

Go ahead and use plastic bags, turn on the car's AC, and (yes, really) buy fruit from Chile and New Zealand.

I find it pretty damn ironic that a newspaper article is pointing out that, as a whole, the media's assumed job is to scare us witless. Find a study that shows something can kill, everybody's got to know!

The funny thing about this article is that its whole point seems to be finding new studies that contradict the old. Not just "don't worry", but "here's why we're telling you to stop. Sorry we got you all worked up in the first place."

My father-in-law likes to tell stories about all the insane things we used to do and eat back before science took all the fun out of everything and made us (along with the government and the media which shoves both in our faces) terrified to leave our houses, or stay in them for that matter.

Since when did information become about fear (not rhetorical, Mark)? Maybe let's do what everybody does and blame the lawyers...

Peace.
