Healing Microsoft Windows

WSJ readers comment on the aging, buggy, poorly designed Microsoft Windows:

...someone should just plunk Macintosh in front of the Windows team and say, "Here. Make it work just like this does."

And were I a Microsoft shareholder, I would be slightly concerned about the number of letters I received similar to this one from Bill Haymes of Richmond, Va.: "Although I have been a Microsoft Certified System Engineer since the 1990s, my next home computer will be a Mac."

Other complaints include wizards ("a sure indication that the underlying software package is too complicated"), Recycle Bins that ask "are you sure you want to delete this?" and slower and slower performance with each new version.

Not sure how Microsoft is going to be able to make a comeback. My guess is that it has to come from the video game side (Halo or XBox). I talk about it in a recent blog post. Great column Mark.
