On the Mac, Quicksilver is really nice for resizing, via the Image Manipulation Actions plug-in. (Did I first read about it in Bit Literacy?)

Maybe - I do mention Quicksilver in Appendix B, as an alternative to Spotlight (which I'm liking better now in its latest incarnation).
